Sherry was a storyteller & found joy in the simplest of things.  In her early years in Crane, she was friends with everyone and was known for having the best slumber parties while living at the old courthouse.  They would play hide & seek throughout the jail.  When she was 10, she was able to join 4H & became a stiff competitor in showing & excelling on the rifle team.  In Jr. High & High School years, Sherry showed of her skills making plenty of racket on the snare drum.  She also played in the jazz band.  She was an amazing volleyball player, dominating as a spiker.  Later in life, she took those skills to the golf course.  When she wasn't making noise or playing sports, Sherry enjoyed dancing country western like a pro.  She graduated from Crane High School, class of 1968.  She went on to attend Texas Tech University where she graduated, class of 1976 receiving her degree, Bachelor of Science in Physical Education.  After college, she began her teaching career at Alderson Jr. High where she taught P.E. & coached.  Over the years, Sherry taught at several Lubbock schools including Estacado, Matthews 7th Grade Learning Center & Mackenzie Middle School.  She then began teaching Adaptive P.E. for the district where she would go to a number of schools working with handicapped children.  Sherry absolutely loved this job!  She retired in December 2010.

Sherry's love for sports followed her throughout her entire life.  After high school, she played softball (catcher) in Lubbock and San Antonio.  She found golf in the 80's & it was love and first drive!  She won multiple "longest drive" contests & had two "hole in ones".  When she wasn't out on the golf course, Sherry enjoyed playing cards with friends, fishing & hitting the casino which was the perfect vacation.  She never met a stranger & had so many friends that everywhere they went, she knew someone.  Spending time with her inner circle was something she would never miss out on.  Sherry's family was the number one true love of her life.

Sherry was a woman of exceptional courage & tenacity.  A woman whose life story was as inspiring as her soul.  Her radiant spirit continues to shine brightly in our hearts, guiding us, just as she always has.  Sherry was the kind of person who would go out of her way to help others, no questions asked.  She taught us that the real measure of success is not what you have in your life but WHO you have in your life.

The family of Sherry would like to thank you for all of your support during this difficult time and ask that in lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the GoFundMe account set up where all donations will go to the Lubbock ISD Special Olympics program in honor of Sherry.
